A wartime image of a Type 97 Kai Shinhoto Chi-Ha medium tank. In contrast to other medium tanks of the Second World War the driver’s position was located on the right-hand side of the tank’s front hull and the bow gunner on the left side of the front hull. In 1940, the German army provided the Hungarian army with two prototypes of a pre-war Czech-designed medium tank labelled the T-T21. It had not been accepted by the Czech army for service. Hungarian industry copied and modified the design and built the Turan I seen here armed with a 40mm main gun. (Charles Kliment collection)
